I installed Win 7 Upgrade the other day on my Acer Aspire One AOA150
that came with XP Home. This netbook has 3 USB ports and 2 card
readers, and I usually use USB flash drives and SCHD cards. Occasionally
I use an external HDD and, to perform this upgrade, an external DVD
drive.
When this netbook was running XP, and when I was using a USB flash drive that has a light on the body to let you know "things" are happening, I would click the Safe Remove action and the light on the flash drive would go out letting me know the connection has been terminated. (The same as my desktop computers as well.)
After installing 7, the Safe Remove infocon comes up after clicking the drive to remove saying "Safe to remove...", but the light remains on until I unplug it from the port. This is telling me that there is still an electrical connection at the least, and I'm sure that removing the drive (or card) with power still applied is not good for the equipment or the drive/card. So, I went so far as to install a program called "USB Safely Remove" that works great with XP when my external SATA HDD would refuse to cooperate in much the same way as what is happening now. The results were the same. USB SR said it is safe to remove, however the power and connection were still active. The only immediate solution I have at the moment is to shut the computer down completely to remove the external drives.
I have updated the drivers associated with this specific computer.
Thanks in advance for your help with this issue.
